It's pretty much just walk into the office delete all my incriminating files personal stuff, and then hand over the laptop.

Do the timesheets and send them in to my payroll company, even though payroll isn't until the week after.

Deleting all the files on the other work laptop is probably required too. And that's going to be a lot more extensive. I'm probably going to need a USB to get it all off.

Then all the bookmarks for the various browsers, and the history, and the lot...

Oh, now I have to hunt out where all the peripherals that I got are so I can take them back and return them on Monday...

--

It's a fairly quiet weekend for me.

With the hockey grand final on Sunday lunchtime, I'm not doing anything that might cause issues with my back. No gardening, nothing heavy, not climbing up on the roof to clear the gutters...nothing.

Lots of plans. Lots of writing. Lots of stretching.

Hm. Well, actually, I might try going for a short jog at the gym later tonight (as in, right before the wash and going to bed). Just to get the fitness up, because I haven't really done anything for two weeks - in large part because of the back issues. But it's been back to normal the last couple of days - even hard sneezes aren't twinging, thankfully. So it'll be a run tonight, relax tomorrow, and a good solid warm up on Sunday.

There's a 'church community' dinner for my service this weekend - Saturday 6pm, a couple that I know reasonably well but who I'm not hugely friendly with. And six other people: five of whom are in my regular Thursday night trivia group and the sixth is also a friend. I was kind of hoping for people I don't know really well, but ah well. There'll be opportunity to get to know them better.

--

Next week, the plan is to do a lot of writing. Probably mostly fanfic, but maybe I could try to get back into the swing of profic again.

--

Apparently the Zutara Big Bang has just gone live, and will be posting for the next 5 days.

I'm going to slowly work my way through the fics over the next week, I think.

blue hair

I went very blue blue today.

Just the front, but enough of the crown that it can look like I've had my entire head done.

It did mean that my front had to be bleached very hard, and now my hair's a little stringy. Probably going to have to use some hair oil to keep it less flyaway and awful.

I was going to let it grow out, but I kind of said "eh, fuckit" and went for it.

But I think the scents of the chemicals is giving me a headache. I have a headache, anyway, and I'm blaming it on the blue hair.

Spent the day trying to do all the stuff for my exit from this place, and tbh, it's a little bit of a job. I'm really starting to feel the anxiety now (did I say this in a previous post? I think I did.)

Also, got some work this evening, so took some time-off-in-lieu to get the hair done.

Came out of hockey training fine, just a little sore.

Went for a 500m walk at the gym today, rollered the hips and thighs. Have a physio appointment this afternoon after work.

Might have to go for a run tomorrow and again on Friday.

I'm basically leaving doing anything around the house that might cause me physical issues until next Monday. At which point, I'm going to be climbing roofs and pulling down tarps and cleaning windows and sorting boxes...

--

Work offboarding over the next few days.

--

The neighbours behind us are moving out. The house was bought by the Uniting Church about 3 years ago and they moved in (Feb 24) and now...they're moving out because of a change to her role with the church.

*sadface*

Now we have to navigate new tenants, and hope that they're nice people. Also, that they don't make a fuss about the complete mess of our back porch, which can be very visibly seen from the downstairs study...

--

PLOT TWIST.

Just got a call from my one-up supervisor. He didn't realise I was finishing at the end of August until JUST NOW. He thought I was going until the end of September...

That's an big OOPS.

Also, not unusual for this company: the right hand knoweth not what the left hand doeth. Ah well. Not my circus, not my monkeys.

He did put in a word for me in a different role in the project which I am also qualified for, but hasn't heard back from them about that. Who knows?

sorry my darlings, I'm going to be a "chatty Cathy" this week because of anxiety about the End Of Work.

rimble, ramble, rumble )

These last few days are a little bit bleh - not much to do because I'm handing my workload over. And then I feel vaguely guilty for not having much to do!

This morning, the lawn guy came and snipped, chipped, and trimmed a bunch of things. Nice not to have the lawn all gone wild again!

I'm presently hemming handkerchiefs. After lunch, I might do some writing.

I mean, this is kind of the way it's been tending these last couple of weeks. Even my daily monitoring role has been taken on by the guy who's replacing me and that was the biggest part of my work...

Ooh, it's lunchtime.

--

I bought a box of vegies (and fruit) on their 'last legs' for $10 last night at the local supermarket: 3 avos, 5 bunches of asparagus, about 6 small broccoli (equiv to 2 large ones), 5 potatoes, 2 oranges and a mando, an apple, a parsnip, a zucchini, a capsicum (bell pepper), three cucumbers...

Pretty good value! And today I cooked about half the asparagus and mashed the avos with red onion, garlic, and coriander to make some guacamole. With a couple of eggs, that was quite a satisfactory lunch.

--

Hockey training tonight, although it's raining, I think people are pretty intent on going and getting some team training in...

other updates on life

Back feels a lot better this week. Still a bit tense when I sneeze, still kind of achey in some parts, but feels okay. Going to training tomorrow. Might try for a gentle massage tonight.

Hockey Grand Final next Sunday, 11am.

1. don't do myself in!
2. score a goal!

We'll see how that goes. First I have to get through training tomorrow night.

Having emerged from the haze of AtlA fanfic (sort of) after reading a lot of the really popular stuff (some of which is good, some of which is...eh), and in the middle of trying to write my own...I'm finding it alternately impossibly draining and psychologically invigorating...at least for the first 5000 words. After that, my ability to write just flows away, into the 'impossibly draining' phase.

*sigh*

I feel like I had more words a decade ago. Two decades ago. Maybe it's perimenopause; maybe I used up all my good words before.

*bigger sigh*

On Thursday, I went in to get my phone fixed - it's been having mobile data issues for a while, I wasn't getting any signal anywhere. Some of it might be transferring over to the JB HiFi plan (I feel like I should try to go back to Optus, go for a super-cheap plan) but some of it was almost certainly the phone.

Took it to a guy who looked hands-on and did repairs, he opened up the back (it was cool watching) and discovered the charging board connection to the antenna had cracked. Too much dropping the phone on its head, I suspect. Anyway, replace the charging board and the battery add a new case (cracked - again from dropping it too much) and it was ready to go. Not exactly 'cheap' but cheaper than a new phone. Or even a refurbished one.

I went to the library on Saturday afternoon, in 2 hours, I managed to write 1500 words. Largely because I left my phone in the car and without internet I had zero distractions.

With the month off looming ahead, I'm just thinking that maybe a daily trip to the library for a couple of hours with zero distractions would help me to write. I'd turn off the phone while I was in the library to facilitate the writing. Catch the bus to and from to get into the rhythm of things. That also leaves me time to do things at home in the morning, or maybe the early afternoon.

It's going to be a super-hot summer, and I really need to get things sorted out for the chickens. They need some space that will be cool and which we can herd them into. With bird flu well and around in Australia, I need to get the run covered. The tarp over their coop could do with replacing - a tarp might help keep the wild bird poop from getting in their yard too, so I have to look into that as well...

And every time I look around there's something else to do...

So many things and never enough time.

OH well, just a little bit each day. Maybe.

1. What is your favorite vegetable?

Tomatoes, I think. They're just so versatile. Or maybe avocadoes? Actually, I pretty much like all vegies, when cooked correctly. That last bit is definitely the conditional modifier, though.

2. What is your least favorite (or most disliked) vegetable?

I can't think of one right now. Mostly, I've found, it's how it's cooked.

Brussel sprouts? Tossed with bacon and olive oil, topped with parmesan cheese.
Broccoli? Cut into smaller florets and stir-fry with garlic, salt, and a neutral oil.
Cabbage? Gimme a good, tasty slaw.
Eggplant? Every tried the dish called 'imambaylidi'? In Arabic, it means 'the imam fainted'.
Cauliflower? Two words for you: cauliflower steak. (Also: cauliflower cheese.)

3. How many half cup (one deciliter) servings of vegetables do you eat on a typical day?

At least a couple. Sometimes more. Depends how much energy I have to clean and cook them. That's the thing about vegies; they take preparation.

4. What is your favorite fruit?

Mangoes, lychees, or cherries.

Wait, no. APRICOTS. But the ones picked from the tree, not bought at market. You can't find tasty apricots anymore, you just can't. So really, my 'favourite' fruit is mostly a memory now. I've been trying to grow apricots for years, but I don't think the climate quite works for it anymore, alas.

5. What is your least favorite (or most disliked) fruit?

I mean, durian smells like foot, although it tastes okay. You just have to hold your nose!

quilts are in; then hockey happened

I handed in my quilts at midday, then went off to the hockey semifinals.

Fifteen minutes in, I pulled a back muscle. One of the ones off to the side of the spine, long, apparently somewhat necessary for core stability.

*screaming*

Now just about everything except lying on the other side aches. Coughing or sneezing actively hurts - like, sharp and painful. Sitting up aches, lying down on my back aches. Reaching for things that requires even a little bit of a lean is almost entirely out of the question.

I was hoping, now that the quilts were done, to have some space and time to write... Apparently, no, this is what the universe has in store for me.

*sigh*

Got a physio appointment for 9am tomorrow.
